Abia State Governor Alex Otti on Sunday visited Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, assuring him that efforts to secure his release are ongoing.
Governor Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Officials from the Sokoto State Government were also present.
In a statement issued after the visit, Ekeoma said the governor encouraged Kanu to remain strong, noting that engagements initiated over two years ago had been intensified. Otti expressed optimism that the matter would be resolved administratively, and that Kanu would soon regain his freedom.
The governor also informed Kanu that the Sultan of Sokoto had voiced support for a peaceful resolution. Ekeoma added that Otti jokingly remarked the Sultan considered Kanu his “subject” and would be turbaned, drawing laughter from the IPOB leader.
Kanu was described as being in high spirits during the visit. He thanked the governor for the gesture, commended the development strides in Abia State, and urged the continuation of good governance. He also prayed for the governor and his delegation.
