The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, has commended the Chairman of Onigbongbo LCDA, Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, describing him as “on the right track” following his Mega Empowerment Programme held on Friday to mark his first 100 days in office.
Speaking in a brief chat with The Columnist NG’s Yusuf Mohammed, Ogunlende praised Adebanjo’s strides and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting young leaders in government.
When asked why he is particularly invested in Hon. Adebanjo’s progress, especially as a fellow youth, the commissioner said: “Your question is a very germane one. He falls under my constituency. As Commissioner for Youth sitting on the State Executive Council, I must always ensure that we are guiding ourselves because united we stand and divided we fall.
The youth have, for a very long time, felt sidelined in governance. Now that we have been given the opportunity to be part of government, we must continue to encourage ourselves, hold ourselves accountable, and advise ourselves. The only way to do that is by standing up and showing up for one another — that’s why I am here.”
Speaking on the empowerment event, which reportedly supports 219 households within the LCDA, Ogunlende described the initiative as impactful and forward-thinking.
“It’s a laudable event. From what I heard, about 219 households are on the payroll of Onigbongbo, meaning 219 families are being directly impacted. The empowerment here is in large numbers, and ultimately some of these beneficiaries will become employers of labour.
This reduces pressure on government. If we continue to do this and multiply it tenfold, our community will become a much better place.”
On his advice to Adebanjo going forward, the commissioner said: “He has started well. He is on the right track. You have your initial four years; everyone wants to do two terms in office. For you to earn that second term, just continue on this pedestal — continue doing what you’re doing.”
