Former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, has declared that he remains resolute in his decision to contest the 2027 presidential election, insisting that no political pressure or institutional barrier will deter him.
Obi made the statement while addressing supporters at the OBIDIENT Conference and official declaration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The former presidential candidate, who recently aligned with the ADC, said he is fully prepared to participate in the next general election.
According to Obi, his exit from the Labour Party (LP) followed information that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would not recognise the party’s leadership structure as long as he remained a member. He claimed he was also told that there were efforts at the federal level aimed at preventing his appearance on the ballot.
Despite this, Obi stressed that his ambition to contest in 2027 remains unchanged.
He also took aim at the borrowing profile of the current administration, arguing that the scale of loans obtained in recent years could create long-term financial strain, with repayment timelines stretching decades into the future.
Outlining his priorities, Obi said his focus, if elected, would be on strengthening education and healthcare systems, maintaining that national development is driven primarily by investment in human capital.
Reflecting on his time as governor of Anambra State, he reiterated his stance on public accountability. Obi noted that he declined to formalise the Office of the First Lady during his tenure, explaining that his wife was not elected into office. He further stated that although he approved numerous Certificates of Occupancy for public land, neither he nor his family benefited from such allocations.
Tanko Yunusa, coordinator of the OBIDIENT Movement worldwide, called on supporters to begin early mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls and rally behind the ADC platform.
Similarly, Ben Smith, the movement’s Akwa Ibom State coordinator, described the upcoming election as an opportunity for generational transformation, emphasising the need for jobs, improved security, and renewed national hope.
