Nigeria’s former president Buhari dies in London

Former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away at the age of 82 in a clinic in London, United Kingdom.

His spokesperson, Garba Shehu, confirmed the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday afternoon.

“The family of the former president has announced the passing of Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon at a clinic in London.

May Allah accept him into Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin,” the statement read.

Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023. His legacy spans decades of public service, marked by a focus on anti-corruption, national security, and infrastructural development.

Further details regarding funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family.
