Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has dismissed claims by his estranged wife, Nollywood star Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was 17 years old.
In a statement released on Thursday via his social media pages, Nwoko described the allegation as “false, misleading, and malicious,” insisting that Regina was 21 at the time of their marriage.
“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue and misleading,” he said.
The lawmaker explained that when he first met Regina, she told him she was 21 and backed it up with her Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s card, which showed her date of birth as October 10, 1998.
“For clarity, during my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21. I further asked if she had any document to support this, and she presented her INEC voter’s card, which clearly shows that she was born on October 10, 1998,” Nwoko stated.
According to him, their marriage took place six years ago, meaning Regina is now 27 years old.
“Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be accepted by the public,” he added.
Nwoko further alleged that his estranged wife’s recent claims were influenced by her “current mental condition,” noting that she had started but failed to complete rehabilitation for drug addiction.
“The facts are verifiable and indisputable. Until this is done, I urge the public to treat all her claims with caution, especially considering her current mental condition after abandoning rehabilitation from illegal drug addiction,” he said.
The disagreement between the couple has escalated in recent weeks following Regina’s accusation that Nwoko introduced her to drugs “for his sexual satisfaction.”
Nwoko has denied the allegation, insisting that it was Regina’s brother, Sammy Daniels, who exposed her to drugs and frustrated all efforts to rehabilitate her.
Their feud has played out publicly on social media, with both sides trading accusations of domestic violence and substance abuse.
The controversy deepened after Regina’s brother, Sammy, was arrested in Lagos, transferred to Abuja, arraigned, and later remanded pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
Amid the turmoil, Regina recently shared that her parents—who had been estranged for years—have reconciled in the wake of the family crisis.
