In a decisive show of strength and unity, the campaign of Honourable Moyosore Adebanjo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has received a major boost just days after a contentious primary election.
At a press briefing held in Onigbongbo, APC executives and key party stakeholders threw their full weight behind Adebanjo, dismissing recent dissent as a distraction. Speaking on behalf of the delegates, Mrs Oluwajana Kemi, the APC Woman Leader, described the alleged protests against Adebanjo’s emergence as “manufactured and baseless.”
“The so-called protests exist only in the imagination of those with sinister motives,” Oluwajana said. “President Bola Tinubu, our leader and a democrat to the core, would never support such theatrics aimed at destabilising our party. We remain firm in our support for Honourable Adebanjo.”
Echoing her sentiments, Comrade Kenneth Agba, the party’s Youth Leader, affirmed that the entire APC executive in Onigbongbo LCDA remains united. “Our collective position hasn’t shifted – we’re pleased he answered the call to contest,” Agba noted. “His popularity across all wards is a testament to his leadership and commitment to grassroots development.”
This renewed show of solidarity comes on the heels of controversial remarks made by the current LCDA Chairperson, Olufunke Rekiya, who described the APC primary as a “kangaroo process” and a “dance of shame” in a Facebook post. Her comments were swiftly condemned by party leaders, who labelled them anti-party and anti-democratic. Calls for disciplinary action against her have intensified.
Despite these distractions, the momentum behind Adebanjo continues to grow. Widely seen as a bridge-builder and grassroots mobilizer, Adebanjo boasts a rich political resume. He played a strategic role in coordinating over 8,000 polling unit champions during the 2019 general elections under the ACTNOW project, significantly contributing to the success of President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s re-election in Lagos State.
A committed development advocate, Adebanjo also facilitated the empowerment of over 4,500 petty traders through the Federal Government’s TraderMoni initiative under the Babajide Sanwo-Olu Campaign Organisation (ICG, Onigbongbo Chapter). He has coordinated several other empowerment programs, including soft loan disbursements to 1,300 traders via the Bank of Industry (BOI) and capacity-building workshops that impacted over 200 youths and women in Lagos.
As a creative and result-driven strategist, Adebanjo brings over five years of project and programme management experience, combining policy insight with grassroots activism. His campaign has not only weathered political turbulence but has emerged stronger, with Onigbongbo’s APC leadership now firmly united ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
With the party machinery firmly behind him and a track record of delivering results, Honourable Moyosore Adebanjo is poised to offer the connected, inclusive leadership Onigbongbo LCDA needs.
