Former Kogi State governor, Captain Idris Wada, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Wada received his APC membership card on Saturday at his country home in Odu, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, marking his formal entry into the ruling party.
His media aide, David Alfred-Dogwo, described the move as a strategic decision that opens a “new chapter” in the former governor’s political career.
“The brief but significant ceremony marks Capt. Wada’s formal entry into the APC, signalling a new chapter in his political journey and reinforcing the party’s growing influence in Kogi East Senatorial District,” Alfred-Dogwo said.
He added that the event drew APC leaders, supporters and well-wishers from across the local government area.
According to him, Wada’s defection is expected to strengthen the APC’s foothold in Dekina and enhance its preparations for future elections in the state, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Wada served as governor of Kogi State from January 2012 to January 2016 under the PDP but failed in his attempt to return to office in the 2015 election.
The November 21, 2015 poll was declared inconclusive, prompting a supplementary election on December 5. Following the sudden death of APC candidate Abubakar Audu a day after the initial vote, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) named Yahaya Bello—Audu’s replacement—as winner.
