Publisher of Ovation magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, has appealed to opposition figures, including Peter Obi, to rally behind former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in what he described as a collective effort to rescue Nigeria.
Momodu made the call in Jada, Adamawa State, while delivering the closing lecture at a week-long celebration marking Atiku’s birthday. The ADC chieftain used the occasion to highlight Atiku’s long political journey and his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development.
He cited Atiku’s decision to step down for MKO Abiola during the 1993 SDP presidential primary as an early display of statesmanship, adding that the former vice-president has consistently chosen peace over confrontation despite facing political betrayals.
“Atiku is not a violent politician; you will never find him surrounded by thugs,” Momodu said in remarks released by Atiku’s media office. “He pursues his ambition with clarity, patience and without bitterness.”
Momodu also credited Atiku’s numerous court battles with strengthening Nigeria’s jurisprudence and expanding constitutional governance. He praised his long-standing opposition to military excesses and bad governance at times many were unwilling to speak out.
“When we refuse to encourage good people, the worst among us thrive,” he said.
Describing Atiku as “a great manager of people and resources,” Momodu maintained that the former vice-president is better prepared than anyone else to lead Nigeria at this critical moment.
