The Super Eagles of Nigeria closed their Group C campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in style, defeating Uganda 3-1 at the Fez Stadium in Morocco to maintain an unblemished record.
Nigeria took control of the contest early and were rewarded in the 28th minute when Paul Onuachu struck from close range, finishing off a well-worked move that began with a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.
Uganda found it difficult to match Nigeria’s intensity and fluid attacking play, as the three-time African champions dominated possession and dictated proceedings for much of the first half.
The Super Eagles emerged stronger after the break and extended their lead in the 62nd minute. Samuel Chukwueze turned provider, setting up Raphael Onyedika, who showed composure with his first touch before guiding the ball into the corner.
Onyedika struck again just five minutes later, pouncing on another Chukwueze delivery to fire home from outside the box and effectively put the game beyond Uganda’s reach.
Despite being reduced to 10 men, Uganda pulled a goal back in the 75th minute when Mato produced a delicate finish over goalkeeper Francis Uzoho after being released by Okello.
Nigeria, however, remained firmly in control until the final whistle, sealing top spot in Group C with a perfect nine points, while Uganda finished bottom of the group and exited the tournament.
