Erthiatake Ibori-Suenu, daughter of former Delta State Governor James Ibori, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a related development, four members of the Labour Party (LP) in the House of Representatives have also defected to the ruling APC. The lawmakers include Tochukwu Okere (Imo), Donatus Mathew (Kaduna), Bassey Akiba (Cross River), and Iyawe Esosa (Edo).

Donatus Mathew, who represents Kaura Federal Constituency in Kaduna State and made headlines in 2023 for winning his seat as a commercial motorcycle rider, explained his decision to switch parties. Speaking on the matter, he said, “This decision is based on conviction. While some members of my constituency are supportive, others remain skeptical, waiting to see the outcome.”

Their official defection letters were presented during Thursday’s session of the House of Representatives and read by the Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas.
