Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello, Aka White Lion, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fund misappropriation. Reports indicate that the former governor is undergoing questioning by EFCC operatives.
While some sources claim Bello was arrested by the anti-graft agency, others suggest he voluntarily arrived at the EFCC office alongside his legal team.
This development follows a recent court hearing on November 14, where the EFCC sought an adjournment until November 27 in a fresh case it filed against Bello, citing the ongoing 30-day period for compliance with a previously issued summons.
Bello’s troubles with the EFCC intensified in April 2024 when the agency declared him wanted for allegedly ignoring multiple invitations and resisting arrest. During an attempt to apprehend him at his Abuja residence on April 17, EFCC operatives faced a standoff that lasted several hours.
Reinforcements from the Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) were called in to assist with the arrest. The situation escalated further when Bello’s successor, Governor Usman Ododo, arrived at the scene but left shortly after. Reports later alleged that Bello was inside Ododo’s vehicle as it departed, prompting security operatives to open fire.
Since the April incident, Bello had remained out of public view until his recent appearance at the EFCC office.
