Trump appoints Elon Musk to help reduce 'wasteful' government spending

Donald Trump announced yesterday that Elon Musk, who’s the richest man in the world, and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will lead a new initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency, aimed at reducing “wasteful” government spending. Despite its name, this department will operate outside the formal government structure.

Trump stated that Musk and Ramaswamy would offer “advice and guidance” from the private sector and work with the Office of Management and Budget to “drive large-scale structural reform, creating an entrepreneurial approach to government like never before.” He predicted that the initiative would be a disruptive force in government operations.

According to Trump, Musk and Ramaswamy will “lay the groundwork for my administration to dismantle bureaucracy, slash excessive regulations, eliminate wasteful spending, and reform federal agencies.”

Musk responded to the announcement on X, the social media platform he owns, promising full transparency. “All actions will be documented online for public viewing. If you think we’re cutting something vital or not tackling wasteful spending, let us know!” He added that they would maintain a “leaderboard for the most insanely dumb spending of your tax dollars.”

Ramaswamy also commented on X, saying, “We will not go gently, @elonmusk,” followed by an American flag emoji.
