Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Murtala Ajaka is currently ahead of Governor Yahaya Bello’s anointed candidate, Ahmed Ododo in the governorship primary election of the APC in Kogi State.
According to information from officials on ground, Bello’s preferred candidate who is the Auditor-General of the state is currently losing the primary election by a wide margin.
The Columnist Ng gathered that Ajaka who is fondly called Muri has won 14 Local Government Areas out of 21 so far. He won all the nine LGAs in Kogi East where he is from, and won Ajaokuta, Lokoja, Koton and two LGAs in Kogi West.
However, there are some forces fighting hard to ensure that Ododo, instead of Muri is declared as the winner of the election.
Earlier on, Sanusi Mohammed Ohiare one of the aspirants who refused to step down has threatened to sue the APC if a candidate is announced without a proper primary election.
Ohiare, who is the Executive Director of the Rural Electrification Funds, while speaking to journalists at his ward on Friday, said no election officials were present despite huge turnout of voters for the primary election. He said similar situation was reported from about 238 wards in the state.
Meanwhile, Governor Bello has described the primary election as very peaceful, orderly and successful.
Bello, in a statement by his Chief Press secretary, Onogwu Mohammed, said: “We are so glad that we haven’t received any report of violence or any crisis from Kogi East, Kogi Central and Kogi West Senatorial Districts.
“This has been our prayer from day one that the primary election of our great party this time be devoid of any crisis or violence to reflect the people’s will and aspiration.
Bello asked members and supporters of APC to respect the outcome of the election soon to be announced by the Zamfara Governor led primary election committee.
