A Max Air aircraft crash-landed on Tuesday night at Mallam Aminu International Airport, Kano, after losing a landing gear tyre upon arrival from Lagos.
A video of the incident showed the aircraft skidding on the runway as emergency responders, including the airport’s fire service crew, rushed to the scene. The incident occurred around 10:57 p.m., with airport officials working swiftly to assist passengers evacuating the plane.
Providing an update on Wednesday via X, Tunde Moshood, special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed that the aircraft had been cleared from the runway.
“The disabled Max Air 5NMBD that had a burst tyre on landing yesterday has been removed from the runway,” Moshood stated. “Sweeping of the runway is ongoing, and NOTAM will be cancelled after inspection. Runway 06/24 is now open for normal operations.”
This marks another incident involving Max Air in recent months. On July 22, 2024, a Max Air flight from Yola to Abuja aborted takeoff after four of its tyres burst. Similarly, in December 2023, an Abuja-bound Max Air aircraft made an emergency landing when one of its engines caught fire just 10 minutes after departing Maiduguri airport.
