Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser on information and strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasized that the president is aware of the economic hardships faced by Nigerians and is working diligently to address them. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Onanuga dismissed the social media nickname “T-pain,” which has been used to link Tinubu’s name to the economic challenges Nigerians are enduring. The name “T-pain” — originally the stage name of American musician Faheem Najm — has become a common reference to the president, highlighting the public’s frustration.
Onanuga clarified that while Tinubu acknowledges the current difficulties, he remains committed to implementing policies aimed at long-term economic reform. He added, “The president doesn’t engage with social media narratives. Some people out of mischief call him T-pain, but he is not that.”
Onanuga reiterated that Tinubu is focused on alleviating the nation’s economic struggles and that positive indicators like revenue growth and economic expansion are evident despite inflation. This statement follows recent remarks from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who criticized Tinubu’s handling of fuel subsidies and accused him of indifference toward the public’s hardships.
